Acolyte Guild

The Acolyte Guild is a vibrant ministry with a long history of service to Holy Trinity. The Guild currently has 33 members ranging from age 8 to... uh well, never mind - you get the picture. The word acolyte means a "companion" or "one who helps". Acolytes serve as a companion to the clergy, helping them perform a number of functions before, during and after the close of the worship service.

The Holy Trinity Acolyte Guild accepts anyone age 8 and up. We even provide the training. New acolytes generally start as "Torchbearers" and are responsible for lighting and putting out the candles, carrying the torches in the procession and helping with the collection. We've been pretty successful at keeping the church from catching on fire. After a few years Torchbearers are promoted to "Servers". Servers assist the priest with the communion and carrying the second processional cross among other duties. The "Crucifers" are our most experienced acolytes and lead the procession and assist the clergy as needed. They also "manage" the serving team during the service and provide invaluable on-the-job training as needed.

In addition to helping with the Service, the Guild participates in the Acolyte Festival at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., and runs the Annual Pancake Supper. If you have any questions or are interested in joining the Guild, or know of someone who is interested in joining the Guild such as a son or daughter age 8 or older please contact Doug Sarcia (Acolyte Director) via Holy Trinity Email or drop a note in his church mailbox. We'd love to welcome you into the Guild!
